One App for Your Miles and Your Receipts
MileIQ tracks mileage. SparkReceipt tracks mileage, receipts, expenses, and bank statements, all in one plan.
MileIQ is a dedicated mileage tracker, and its monthly price has more than doubled since 2024, climbing from $5.99 to $13.99. SparkReceipt puts business mileage in the same app that scans your receipts, tracks your expenses, and reads your bank statements, with 3 users included. If you track more than miles, one subscription can replace two.

Who Should Switch, and Who Shouldn't
MileIQ does one thing, and it does it well: it detects your drives automatically. You never press a button. It runs in the background and logs every trip for you to swipe business or personal. If zero-touch mileage capture is the only thing you need, a dedicated auto-tracker is a fine tool.
SparkReceipt's Trips feature works differently today. You tap Start when you set off and Stop when you arrive, or you enter a trip by typing the addresses. It records the route by GPS in the background once a trip is running, doubles the distance for a round trip, and lets you classify each trip business or personal in one tap. Automatic drive detection is coming soon, but it isn't here yet.
So the honest split is simple:
- If you only track mileage and want it fully hands-off, stay with a dedicated auto-tracker for now.
- If you track mileage and also drown in receipts, SparkReceipt is built for you. One app logs the trip, scans the receipt, sorts the expense, and reads the bank statement, for one price, with room for your accountant.
Most freelancers and small business owners are in that second group. They were never shopping for a mileage app. They needed their whole shoebox handled, and mileage was one more thing on the pile.
What Makes SparkReceipt Different
One app instead of three or four โ Your miles, receipts, expenses, and bank statements live in one place. Log a drive on your phone, snap the gas receipt at the pump, and both are waiting on your dashboard, already sorted. Explore the mileage tracker and the AI receipt scanner.
3 users included โ You, your partner, and your accountant, all on one plan. MileIQ's Unlimited plan covers one person.
AI receipt scanning โ Snap any receipt and AI pulls the vendor, amount, date, and tax in seconds, in almost any language and 190 currencies. A mileage tracker can't do this at all.
Bank statement extraction โ Upload a PDF, CSV, or Excel statement and AI extracts every transaction, then flags the charges missing a receipt. See the bank statement extractor.
A stable, all-in-one price โ MileIQ's monthly plan went from $5.99 to $13.99 in two years, for the same single feature. SparkReceipt bundles the whole stack into one plan. Check SparkReceipt pricing for current numbers.

SparkReceipt is not trying to out-track a dedicated mileage app on automatic detection; that feature is still on our roadmap. It aims to be the one app a self-employed person opens for everything else, with mileage included instead of billed separately.
Scan one of your own receipts and log a trip on the free plan.

It depends on what you track. If you only need automatic mileage logging, a dedicated auto-tracker is the closest match. If you track mileage alongside receipts, expenses, and bank statements, SparkReceipt is the strongest alternative, because it handles your whole pre-accounting stack in one app, with 3 users included.
Not yet. Today you tap Start and Stop to record a GPS trip, or enter a trip by typing the addresses. Automatic background drive detection is coming soon. MileIQ's main strength is that it detects drives on its own, so if fully hands-off tracking is essential right now, factor that in.
MileIQ's Unlimited plan is $13.99 per month, or $11.66 per month billed annually, with a free tier of 40 drives per month. The monthly price has climbed from $5.99 in 2024 to $8.99 in 2025 to $13.99 in 2026. (Verify against MileIQ's pricing page โ prices change.)
For most freelancers and small business owners, yes โ especially if you also scan receipts and track expenses, because SparkReceipt does all of it in one plan. If your only need is automatic, zero-touch mileage capture, keep in mind that SparkReceipt's automatic detection is still coming soon.
SparkReceipt generates a per-trip PDF report with the route, purpose, distance, and reimbursement. You set your own per-mile rate, so it does not apply the IRS standard rate automatically, and there is no CSV mileage export yet. MileIQ is stronger on IRS-formatted mileage reports specifically. Consult a qualified tax professional for advice on your mileage deduction.
Yes. The free plan includes 3 trips per month, and every paid plan starts with a 7-day free trial of the full app: receipt scanning, expense tracking, bank statement extraction, and mileage together.
